For this blog, we are going to talk about a technique that comes up often at our downtown Toronto Chiropractic Clinic: Neural Flossing.
Neural Flossing is a technique that gently works a nerve through a range of motion. As a result, this can often help to alleviate nerve pain associated with a nerve that has become trapped or even adhered to surrounding tissue. Most recently, we have been working with chiropractic patients to help alleviate the pain from sciatica and femoral nerve entrapment. Neural flossing can be done at home without any special equipment and when paired with chiropractic adjustments, can provide tremendous relief from nerve pain.
An important first step in beginning a neural flossing route is to figure out where the nerve is entrapped. This is best done by a professional like a chiropractor. It may be tempting to try to figure it out by consulting Doctor Google, but I have first hand see patients causing more harm to themselves by trying this approach. Once your chiropractor has diagnosed where the nerve is entrapped, they can provide you with specific neural flossing exercises. Pain relief can often begin in as little as a few adjustments combined with neural flossing sessions.
So how do you know if you need to see a chiropractor about learning some neural flossing techniques? If you are experiencing any nerve related pain or numbness and tingling, you should see a chiropractor. Conditions like sciatica, piriformis syndrome, femoral nerve entrapment or pain down the arms all benefit from chiropractic care and neural flossing.
